Ched Evans, who was recently linked to Maltese club Hibernians, has now been reported to be on the verge of joining League One team Oldham.
The news that he might be joining Hibs was met with disdain by many, who did not want to see Malta to be associated with a convicted rapist.
The head of English football's players union says the club is due to hold a news conference tomorrow in relation to the signing of Ched Evans, who served half of a five-year sentence before his release in October.
Evans, who has played 13 games for Wales, had an offer to train with former club Sheffield United retracted in November after a backlash from the club's supporters, sponsors and patrons.
Evans maintains his innocence and an inquiry into his conviction by a review commission is under way.
