A man, David Grech, has been found guilty of issuing a bounced cheque for €6,027 in December 2010, to pay for a delivery of wine and whiskey.

Inspector Maurice Curmi said that the accused had admitted to forking out a cheque of €6,027 to NM Arrigo Ltd for the delivery. He also said that the accused admitted that the account from which the cheque was written was closed at the time.

BOV representative Romwald Attard said the account ad been closed in April 2008. He then dded that it wasn’t exactly closed, but changed from an overdraft account to a loan account and was later closed in March 2011 as a bad debt account.

Magistrate Carol Peralta found the accused guilty and sentenced him to a one year prison sentence suspended for three years. He was also ordered to pay the sum of €6,027 to NM Arrigo Ltd within six months.
