During the third quarter of this year, Malta experienced an increase of 1.6% in wages while in the whole of the eurozone the increase was that of 1.4%, Eurostat statistics show.
In a statement, the government said that statistics showed that during the last 12 months, the increase in wages here in Malta was 2.8% when compared to the 1.7% in the eurozone.
During the same period, inflation stood at 0.9%.
The statistics, the government said, rubbish the Opposition’s negative arguments that workers are ending up with less money in their pockets.
The sector in Malta which experienced a drastic increase in wages, the Eurostat survey observed, was in the industry sector, that of 4.3%. As for the services sector, wages increased by 2.4% here in Malta.
