€1.3 million spent for refurbishment works on social housing over past four years

Social Solidarity and Family Minister Michael Farrugia announced that the government has spent €1.3 million for refurbishments on government housing in Senglea, St Paul’s Bay, Hamrun, Ta Giorni and Pembroke.

The maintenance work was overseen by the Housing Authority, and more is expected to take place on social housing in Lija, Attard and Mellieha, Mr Farrugia revealed.

In Senglea, structural works were carried out on a block of apartments containing 31 units. In addition to this, the rooftops and balconies were also refurbished both aesthetically and structurally.

Works carried out started from 2013 and have been ongoing up until this year.  Each project included structural works, works to improve communal areas, and aesthetic refurbishment.

For Senglea, a total of €632,955 was spent, in Paola €112,172 was spent, in St Paul’s Bay €193,903, in Hamrun €392,263 was spent, in Ta Giorni €232,855 and lastly, €256,262 was spent in Pembroke.
