Simon Schembri's daughter yesterday posted a heartfelt message to her father on Facebook, on what was his final day as a police officer.

Schembri this week completed his 25 years of service as an officer of the law.

He suffered a serious injury back in 2018, losing an arm while on the job, after he was dragged several metres under a speeding car in a hit-and-run incident.

"Dear dad. Today was officially your last day as a police officer after 25 years of service. We can all say that there was laughter, joy but most of all, downs. Unfortunately, you had to finish your service with a tragedy that has impacted your life so much. Yet, I am proud to say that you have come out of it a stronger man," his daughter said.

"25 years of saving lives, helping others, going through fire for people and most of all being a patient yourself and ending it with you fighting for your life."

"Our country definitely needs more people like you. Giving your best to serve the country and help people with your whole heart."

"The tragedy that we went through helped us realise how important it is to enjoy every moment we have together and make the most of everyday! Last but not least, I'm even more proud of all the trophies and achievements you've earned."
