European Commissioner Helena Dalli has become a grandmother for the first time, and she dedicated a European Parliament debate to her newly born grandson Benjamin.

Speaking in the European Parliament a mere two hours after Benjamin was born, Dalli received a round of applause from those present at the sitting.

“Dear Benjamin, may you live in a hate-free Europe. May you live in a humane Europe.  May you live in a Europe where you will have the best chance in life to be all that you can be”, she said while opening the debate.

Benjamin was born on 10 March to Dalli’s son Luke Dalli and his partner Sve Cutajar.
