Over 86% of people over the age of 80 have been vaccinated, the Ministry of Health has announced.

The statistic was shared on the Health Ministry’s Facebook page on Tuesday morning.

The ministry urged those over the age of 80 who are mobile, living at home and have not received their vaccination invitation to call the Covid 145 helpline to be given an appointment date.

As of Monday, 122,366 doses of the vaccine had been administered, of which 39,695 were second doses.

The process to vaccinate the first cohorts is moving strongly with 94% of medical front-liners and 80% of vulnerable people vaccinated thus far.

Superintendent of Public Health Charmaine Gauci confirmed that the next cohort to receive their vaccination is those above the age of 60. There is no need to call the 145 helpline as this group will receive their vaccination invitation in due course, she said.

Gauci recently confirmed that the single-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine has now been approved by the European Medicines Agency and the vaccination process will be sped up even further once the first batch of this vaccine arrives.
