Malta receives €123 million financial support in form of loan through EU instrument

The Ministry for Finance and Employment has announced that Malta received, from the European Commission, the second tranche of €123 million nominal in financial support in the form of loan given on favourable terms under the SURE Instrument.

"This amount represents the second and last tranche from the amount of €243.6 million nominal that was allocated to Malta last year in connection with the implementation of European Council decision regarding the establishment of an European instrument for temporary support to mitigate unemployment risks in an emergency (SURE) in response to the Covid-19 outbreak."

This financial support is specifically targeted to assist member states to address sudden increases in public expenditure in response to the Covid-19 outbreak. This was designed to preserve employment, including self-employment and other related measures. It is a 15-Year Loan.

The nominal amount is €123,000,000, the coupon is 0.20% and the yield is 0.228%
