Opposition Leader Bernard Grech has stated that Prime Minister Robert Abela has to take immediate action by dissolving the country’s ties with Electrogas.

This comes after the Times of Malta reported that a Chinese negotiator involved in multi-million euro deals by Enemalta is behind a secret company which, along with Yorgen Fenech’s 17 Black, is suspected of being set up to pay kickbacks to Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi.

The report also revealed that Macbridge International Development is a company which is owned by Tang Zhaomin, the mother-in-law of negotiator Chen Cheng.

Grech said that today’s news is another confirmation of the corruption that has been going on within the government led by former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and now Prime Minister Robert Abela.

He highlighted that it had to be the journalists who uncovered such revelations and corruption. This goes to show that the institutions of this country are not working.

“Today more than ever we have another confirmation that the assets and money of the people have been spent, not in the interest of this country but in the interest of a few who used it in order to earn millions hidden in companies. All this took place under the nose of Joseph Muscat and PM Abela, who to this day has defended what happened,” Grech said.

“Iin the face of all the developments in the past weeks, Abela has a political responsibility to bear.”

Grech stated that as a Prime Minister of this country, Abela has to take immediate action by starting the procees to dissolve the country’s’ ties with Electrogas and by initiating an immediate investigation in this matter.

Abela must also clearly indicate what steps he has taken and what steps he is planning to take in order to uncover the whole truth, he said.

Lastly, Grech remarked that such events continue to show how much this country needs a new page and fresh start which can only be provided by the Nationalist Party.
