Bedingfield criticises ‘emperor’ Hyzler again for handpicking ‘questionable’ people

Monday, 3 May 2021, 20:05 Last update: about 4 years ago

PL Whip Glenn Bedingfield has once criticised Standards Commissioner George Hyzler this time for choosing “questionable” people as his consultants.

Bedingfield has already accused Hyzler of investigating the PL while failing to look at his own faults.

The commissioner had issued a reply, shooting down the MP’s claims.

However, Bedingfield persisted with his argument on Monday.

“What the Standards Czar wants is the standards apply for everyone but for himself. In his public reply, Hyzler said that he doesn’t know any of his workers which do not have high standards,” Bedingfield said.

Bedingfield hinted that the Standards Commissioner had handpicked a person who had “serious allegations” levelled against him and had been removed from office.

“I have no doubt that he knows, but if he doesn’t, he should investigate,” Bedingfield said.

The PL Whip also remarked that Hyzler has another consultant who analyses the declaration of assets of MPs. “From all the auditors, he handpicked one who was found guilty in court due to negligence as an auditor,” Bedingfield said.

He also said that the Standards Commissioner has another consultant who is an activist of civil society, which sometimes asks Hyzler to investigate certain matters. “Even if there is no conflict of interest, the fact that there is the perception of conflict of interest is bad,” Bedingfield argued.

He also questioned how it was possible that another one of his consultants spent more than 3,000 making calls on a fixed line.
