Three people are in hospital after a traffic accident in Tarxien, police said in a statement.

Police said that an accident in Triq San Anard in Tarxien at around 9am happened between a Toyota Hilux van being driven by a 47-year-old man from Tarxien, and an Opel Corsa being driven by a 44-year-old woman from Ghaxaq.

The Toyota also had two female passengers - one who was 49 years old and one who was 71 years old, and both of whom live in Fgura.

A medical team and ambulances took the three women to Materi Dei Hospital.

The two passengers were certified as suffering from grievous injuries, while the 44-year-old's condition is still unknown.

Police investigations are ongoing.
