77-year-old becomes latest Covid-19 victim as 37 new cases are reported

A 77-year-old man has become the latest person to pass away while positive for Covid-19, health authorities reported in their daily update on Monday.

He is the 445th person to die in Malta while Covid-19 positive.

37 new cases of the virus were reported on Monday, with 49 people also reported as having recovered from the virus.

The number of active cases currently stands at 710.

A total of 29 Covid positive patients – two less than Sunday – are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, two of whom are in ITU.

2,601 swab tests were administered on Sunday, taking the total so far up to 1,211,456.

Meanwhile, the number of vaccine doses administered so far has crept up to 799,214.

415,254 of those are a first dose, while 413,844 people are now fully vaccinated.

Malta has had 36,512 cases of the virus. 34,961 of those have recovered, while 445 have died.
