A new office was inaugurated in Gozo for the LGBTIQ + Gozo organisation.
Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri together with the Minister for Equality, Research and Innovation Owen Bonnici inaugurated the new LGBTIQ + Gozo office in Victoria.
The office, named Qawsalla Hub, will be hosting this same organisation and providing Gozitan members of the LGBTIQ + community with access to various services.
Minister Camilleri said that this goes to show that the Government believes in the equality and rights of LGBTIQ + people, with most of the civil rights being achieved in recent years under this Government.
Minister Bonnici noted his satisfaction with Malta's advancement for the rights of LGBTIQ+ people and stated the importance of continual support through services such as those to be provided by this office.
"It is important that our country uses the achievements it has made in this field in order to set an example even for other countries, which have not yet recognized the embrace of diversity and still discriminate against LGBTIQ + people," he said
"It is crucial that at no time do we take the value of equality for granted, but continue to uphold it day after day," said Bonnici.
On his part, Eman Borg, Coordinator of LGBTIQ + Gozo said: "We are seeing the fruits of work that LGBTIQ + Gozo has been carrying out for the last 6 years. This is the result of a number of social activities, professional services and projects that have shaped this association as a leading platform on the island of Gozo for all those who live in Gozo."
"We will continue to support the work to include every identity in every aspect of society, and we promise that the doors of LGBTIQ + Gozo will remain open as they were in the past," he added.
Minister Clint Camilleri concluded by saying that Gozo is also preparing for Euro Pride 2023 and in Gozo, the facade of the Ministry for Gozo was lit with the colours of the Rainbow.
The LGBTIQ + Gozo helpline 99356622, offers counsellor support who, through means testing, refers individuals to the necessary professionals who work within the organisation.
