The Occupational Health and Safety Authority today said that it is going to continue its work to monitor work places where health and safety regulations are not being followed.

This warning comes after OHSA conducted multiple inspections in different work places after injuries and deaths occurred.

Since January of this year OHSA conducted 3,724 inspections and through this 478 places of work were ordered to stop operating and 689 fines were administered amounting to €256,750.

Apart from the fines and actions taken against more than 1,000 work places, 112 work places are currently in court and 46 cases are completed and 45 of these were found guilty and their fines amount to a further €68,750.

The fines were split between company directors, employers, self employed as well as project supervisors on construction sites.

These fines regarded themselves with lack of health and safety as well as the lack of risk assessment conducted at the workplace.

Lack of proper inspection in machinery every couple of months and reports to OHSA as is the law were also prevalent in OHSA’s investigations.
