The Nationalist Party has said that, if elected, it will commission studies on Malta’s coastline and double funding for the management of national parks.

The studies would be aimed at identifying areas in need of conservation.

The PN issued a number of proposals related to the climate.

PN spokesperson for the Environment Robert Cutajar said that the PN is proactive in its work to fight against climate change.

He said that under the PN, conservation areas that are Natura 2000 sites will be managed by conservationist groups. Some such sites already are, but Cutajar said that all sites would be. NGOs would be given more resources to help out in this regard also.

PN spokesperson for the green economy David Thake spoke of other proposals, such as that the PN has a plan for the roll-out of electric vehicle charging points. The proposal will, among other things, see two charging points for every 50 spaces in private car parks.

The MPs also announced that the PN will put forward a Private Members’ Bill to tackle abuse by Infrastructure Malta and the Planning Authority.
