The Labour Party has noted the outcome of the vote which was taken yesterday in Parliament about the bill for reform of recreational cannabis laws.
Through this new law, which was formulated after extensive public consultations, new rules regarding possession, consumption, and the cultivation of cannabis for personal use have been established, as well providing new authorities to regulate non-profit associations for this sector, PL said.
Opposition leader Bernard Grech as well as the PN refrained from participating in the consultation, standing against the bill.
The government took on a harm reduction approach, ensuring that this reform will also tackle issues such as the illegal trafficking of cannabis, the black market as well as the dangers of obtaining an unsafe and low-quality substance, said the PL.
The Labour Party has established itself as a government with the responsibility to legalise reforms which society needs, as well as recognised itself as the only guarantee for Malta to have more reforms and justice, the party said.
The reform serves as justice for those who make personal use of cannabis, it said.
