Updated: Man found injured in Pieta dies in hospital

A man who was found injured on the ground in Pieta on Friday has died in hospital, the police said,

The man was found sprawled on the ground, injured, early on Friday morning in Pieta.

Police said in a statement that their assistance was requested at around 6:30am in Triq Hookham Frere in Pieta where a person had been found sprawled on the ground.

District police went on site and found the man on the ground outside the entrance of a garage complex.

The man was identified as a 54-year-old, who lives in Pieta, and police said that he was suffering from injuries – although the nature of these was not specified.

The man was taken by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital where he was certified as suffering from life threatening injuries.

Duty magistrate Astrid May Grima is leading a magisterial inquiry, while a police investigation to establish the specifics on the case is also ongoing.

On Saturday morning, the police said that the man had died.
