Robert Abela’s proposals for Gozo are either recycled or copied – Grech

Prime Minister Robert Abela's proposals for the PL's electoral campaign are either copied from the PN's electoral programme, or recycled from past PL manifestos, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech said on Tuesday.

He said that this is especially the case for the PL's proposals for Gozo.

Addressing a political rally in Victoria, Gozo, Grech said that Abela is recycling the proposal for a new court building in Gozo, which is currently in an unsatisfactory state. He said that the PL had promised a new court building in the past, however the state of the court in Gozo has stayed the same for 10 years.

Grech condemned Abela for also promising more elderly homes in Gozo, which he said the PL also did not implement in the past. He said that the PN will prioritize the health sector in Gozo, by building a new hospital with 400 beds.

"Abela is now copying this proposal, with the only difference being that their hospital will have 430 beds," Grech said.

"The PN will also give the only hospital in Gozo back to Gozitans," Grech said, adding that Steward Health Care will not own the Gozo General Hospital under a PN government. "Steward will not continue receiving millions from the government should the PN be trusted to lead the country," Grech said.

Grech pledged to build a helipad at the Gozo hospital, and one in Malta, so that patients do not have to commute for long hours between the hospitals.

He also promised that the PN will build five new elderly homes around Gozo. Grech said that the PN will create a new regional council which will be elected by Gozitans and be given the executive power it deserves.

The environment in Gozo will also be strengthened and "we will not destroy it, as the PL is doing," Grech pledged.

Grech criticised Abela for failing to publish his inland revenue report on his ODZ villa in Zejtun, after challenging him to do so.

He questioned as to why the report was not published, saying that the laws do not apply to Abela. Grech said that Abela is a 'serial tax evader.'
