The Minister gave his best wishes to those who have been appointed and advised them to continue being integral parts of the continuous change that is occurring within the corps, so that it can continue to offer society its security and protection, while being ready to offer support to victims of crimes.

The Minister said that these newly appointed Superintendents, Assistant Commissioners, and Deputy Commissioner are all leaders within the Police Force. He told them how “the rest of the officers in the positions below you will look to you for guidance, as well as to act on your examples.”

“Be not only leaders, but also beacons of the best possible example, of correctness and commitment, to those around you,” Minister Camilleri said.

The Police Commissioner also wished these experienced officers well. Police Commissioner Gafà reiterated that the Police Force is working in a constantly evolving society, and that, with the corps in the middle of implementing a Transformation Strategy, the Police Force is, “by far, the most important institution trusted in our country.”

“It is important to continue to boost the motivation in your colleagues and be the agents of change. Simultaneously, continue to be of service to the people so that we continue to renew the people’s trust in the work that we will carry it out,” said Gafà.

During his speech, Gafà also saluted the memory of Superintendent Jesmond Borg who passed away five months ago. Mr. Borg was among the candidates for the post of Assistant Commissioner, hence, the corps stated that “on this day, we should remember his legacy, and particularly the values he embraced – not only as a father of his family, but also as an exemplary officer.”
