Art is never stagnant, nor is it meant to be. This statement fits in well with the artistic evolution that can be observed so far in the oeuvre of Fabio Borg who is showcasing a new collection of paintings entitled My Point of View  inext month,  n May 2024.

Renowned for his captivating exploration of the human condition through vibrant hues, intricate brushstrokes and calligraphic lines, Fabio Borg's collection promises to offer viewers a unique perspective on life and the world around us.

Within the depths of Borg's compositions lie layers of emotions. Through his bold and evocative brushwork, Borg invites viewers to embark on a visual journey that transcends the boundaries of reality and imagination. While his paintings may appear to be landscapes -  and indeed, la ndscapes were the starting point for these paintings - they are not landscapes per se.

The compositions adequately capture a mood evoked through colour, thus a continuation of his last solo exhibition titled Moodscapes.

In fact, the artist comments: "I describe my work as being spontaneous and abstract.  While I am working, I don't have the slightest idea of what the end result is going to look like. I try to depict my inner world onto the white canvas."

In this his 11th solo exhibition, his paintings feature experiences drawn from everyday life, hence the title My point of view.

One prevalent theme in Borg's work is the exploration of personal identity that emerged when delving deep into his inner world, exploring the unknowns of his subconscious and his soul. My Point of View serves as a compelling narrative of the human experience, delving into the complexities of identity, memory, and the passage of time.

However, these paintings are also a journey where Borg sees himself surrender to the flow of the brush gliding across the canvas, bringing out what is buried deep within. Each stroke of paint serves as a reflection of the artist's innermost thoughts and emotions, inviting viewers to contemplate their own sense of self in relation to the world around them.

Each painting tells a different story in the artist's daily life. In the same manner that landscapes are a visible reflection of an environment, Borg's work is a visible reflection of his experiences, turning them into memories.

Borg's paintings exhibit a distinctive sense of style that sets him apart. His compositions are often characterised by their dreamlike quality, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy. Through his masterful use of colour and symbolism, Borg offers a glimpse into the shared experiences that unite us all. Colour is, in fact, an extremely important element for the artist.

Borg's mastery of the painting technique is evident in every brushstroke: from the meticulous attention to detail to the bold and expressive use of colour. Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of artistic influences, Borg's style is characterised by its dynamic energy and emotional depth. He approaches each canvas swiftly with a sense of passion and purpose, infusing his work with a sense of vitality.

In My Point of View, Fabio Borg invites viewers to immerse themselves in a landscape of colour, emotion, and imagination. Through his captivating paintings, he challenges us to reconsider our perceptions of reality as something tangible. As we journey through his exhibition, we are reminded of the transformative power of art to inspire and provoke.

My Point of View is open throughout the month of May 2024 in the Palm Court Lounge, The Phoenicia Malta, and is being curated by Dr Charlene Vella.

Visual artist Fabio Borg (b. 1974, Malta) is of Italo-Maltese descent. He started his artistic training by studying painting and drawing at a tender age, first at the Malta Society of Arts and later at the Malta School of Art, both in Valletta. Borg also lived and studied in Italy in what were his formative years. His interactions with Italian artists shaped the way he thought and developed his ideas. Further influence came from Gabriel Caruana (1929-2018) who enthusiastically supported the artist's career. In fact, Borg's first solo exhibition was held at The Mill in 1999 thanks to Caruana's encouragement . He continues to participate in several local and foreign exhibitions and held a solo exhibition in April 2022 at Galleria Vittoria on Via Margutta, the same art gallery that represents Borg in Italy.

Anything can serve as an inspiration for Fabio Borg. Lately his work has evolved towards a more abstract dimension. This is combined with a minimalist appearance that is achieved through a limited use of colour and an economic use of compositional lines. In fact, his art has become more monochromatic than ever. To this effect, he has recently also become more conscious of the fact that one can effectively convey ideas through a minimal use of colour and composition.

Borg hopes that this artistic expression will suffice to arouse emotions in the viewer since, for him, his painting perfectly expresses the feelings that his unique perspective causes. Borg is realising how significant the conceptual aspect is in art, and at times, arguably, this is even more important than the actual execution of the work.

The artist works from his studio in Mosta that provides the ideal environment in which he can nurture and express his thoughts.
