The Aġenzija Żgħażagħ 'Żgħażagħ Attivi' (Active Youth) programme, which aims to promote civic involvement among young Maltese, was launched by Parliamentary Secretary for Youths, Research, and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti.

The Parliamentary Secretary said that the program, which will take place during the 2024-2025 school year, has already reached around 12,000 secondary school students, and aims to continue expanding its impact.

"The Active Youth program should lead our young people to be informed citizens. This initiative provides the necessary tools for young people to make a difference in their community," said Azzopardi Tanti.

He said that the program not only provides academic learning, but also focuses on practical experiences which help young people develop skills and competencies to be able to debate, make informed decisions, and actively work for their community.

Azzopardi Tanti continued that the program will also offer practical skills to help young people in various aspects, with a special emphasis on mental health. Thus, he said, this program is giving schools an opportunity to offer more extensive educational experiences that add value to their students.

Miriam Teuma, the CEO of Aġenzija Żgħażagħ, said that this is an opportunity to continue strengthening the well-being and development of young people sustainably. "Looking forward we continue to offer experiences that allow these generations to be active in their civic life," she concluded.
