Over the last week 182 telephone calls were made to those affected by the Paceville Collapse, the CEO of the BCA Roderick Bonnici has said.
The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) said that it has continued its efforts to safeguard public safety after the incident in St Julian's.
"The CEO of the Building and Construction Authority Perit Roderick Bonnici together with the President of the Kamra tal-Periti (KTP), Perit Andre Pizzuto visited the site where a detailed explanation was given of all the works carried out in the past week in collaboration with the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA), the Department of Civil Protection (CPD ) and the Police," a statement by the BCA and the Chamber of Architects (Kamra tal-Periti or KTP) read.
During this visit, Bonnici gave an account of all the assistance given to third parties in connection with this incident. "Over the last week 182 telephone calls were made to those affected, 241 messages were sent and 24 meetings were held with those affected. An Authority official was constantly on site to assist those affected. This led to these persons, owners and tenants, being given a temporary residence", Bonnici said.
Bonnici explained the process of all the work that has been done so far. He said that the Authority had evacuated all the persons concerned before the collapse. He added that after the collapse, more evacuations were carried out in buildings in which danger could be created in the process of demolishing and cleaning a site.
Pizzuto praised this collaborative work and expressed his satisfaction for the full cooperation of the BCA with all the respective entities, the statement read. Pizzuto said that although the KTP opened an independent investigation from that of the BCA, the two investigations are working hand in hand with the ultimate aim being to establish the cause of this incident.
"The aim of this visit, together with ongoing investigations, is to take the necessary measures on other construction sites and thus reduce the risks of similar situations", Pizzuto said.
