Two men aged 37 and 35, both residents of Qormi, have been arrested in connection with the mugging of a woman that took place earlier this month, police said Thursday.

The incident occurred on December 11 at around 8am, when officers were alerted to a woman found injured on the ground in a parking area near the Addolorata Cemetery in Paola.

Police investigations revealed that the 43-year-old victim was walking in the area when she was allegedly approached from behind by a masked man, who assaulted her and stole her handbag. The bag contained a mobile phone and a sum of cash.

The assailant then fled the scene in a waiting vehicle driven by another individual.

The woman was taken to the Paola Health Centre, where she was treated for minor injuries.

Following inquiries and the review of several security camera recordings, police were able to identify both the alleged attacker and the driver involved in the getaway.

The two suspects are expected to be arraigned in court today at around 1:30pm before Magistrate Gabriella Vella.
