An elderly woman who was hit by a truck in Ħamrun on Sunday morning has passed away, police said on Tuesday.

Police said that the traffic accident happened at 8:30am on Sunday in Triq l-Kbira San Ġużepp in Ħamrun.

The woman is 84 years old and lived in Ħamrun.  She was hit by an Isuzu Elf truck which was being driven by a 67-year-old from Rabat.

The woman was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital where she was certified as suffering from serious injuries. 

A police spokesperson told this newspaper that she succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday morning.

Police said that investigations are ongoing.  Magistrate Joe Mifsud is leading an inquiry.
