April marked the start of summer for the aviation industry, with Malta International Airport's schedule for the season featuring flights to more than 110 destinations, MIA said.

The Italian market remains the most well connected, with flights operated to 18 airports, including a new additional daily operation on the Rome route. The British market follows closely with 17 airport connections, including more frequent flights to London Gatwick, Glasgow, and Newcastle together with increased capacity on several routes.

Enhanced connectivity with the United Kingdom enabled the market to top the leaderboard, accounting for just over 21 per cent of April traffic. The United Kingdom was followed by Italy, Poland, Germany, and France. While all five markets registered growth over the previous year, Poland recorded the strongest increase of nearly 60 per cent.

Approximately 1.02 million passengers travelled through Malta International Airport in April, with traffic peaking on the last day of the month, MIA said. While this result augurs well for the season, Malta International Airport said it maintains close communication with partner airlines as the aviation industry navigates a complex environment.
