Cauchi, 22/05/2025 13:30: The setup of the Constitutional Court composed of three different judges by seniority according to the specifics of each case makes for some serious thinking especially since the component number of judges was reduced from five to three in 1976 at the time of the Vice-president controversy. Suffice it to say that in Italy the constitutional court is composed of fifteen members, and that in the British parliament the House of Lords stands as a valid substitute for such court, albeit it lacks the full powers exercised by continental courts. With the extremely large number of judges and magistrates now obtaining in Malta a reorganisation of the Constitutional and Appeals courts, with permanent members serving II them, could be effected if only the political will was there.

After all no election was called when in 2003 the Mtarfa PN councilors backed a vote of confidence against the then Labour Major.
