Martin Pirotta, 29, from Marsa was accused of stealing Lm8,000 and other items from the residence of George Schembri in Mosta some time last Sunday afternoon. He was also charged with receiving stolen goods and relapsing in view of previous convictions. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.
Presiding magistrate Abigail Lofaro denied defence attorney Ian Farrugia’s request for bail on the grounds that the accused may tamper with evidence.
Prosecuting inspector Jeffrey Cilia told the court this has happened already, because Pirotta asked his partner to cover for him and go along with the alibi he fabricated.
Pirotta was remanded in custody until the case in court continues.
