Adel Dawah, 35, living in San Gwann, admitted stealing two bags containing mobile phones, clothes, money and other documents from Sliema, in August.
Presiding magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera sentenced Dawah to 18 months in jail, but in view of the fact that he committed the thefts while under the operative period of a two-year suspended sentence, he will be spending the next two and half years in prison.
