The Educational value of Champions League and horse racing

Malta Independent Sunday, 5 September 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 23 years ago

“Details on the programmes for PBS winter schedule, including the Champions League matches, will be announced at the appropriate moment,” was his terse reply to The Malta Independent on Sunday.

Neither would Mr Psaila confirm whether the Wednesday match will continue to be broadcast on TVM as during the last season.

He would not even reveal when broadcasts of the Champions League are starting this year on PBS, something which is already public knowledge, since the first stage of the group stage of the competition will start on Tuesday 14 September.

Sources close to PBS told The Malta Independent on Sunday that Education 22 would be taking over the broadcasting of the Tuesday games which until last May were shown on Channel 12.

There was a question mark as to where these matches would be shown following the demise of Channel 12, since the Tuesday evening slot on TVM has been solidly held for several years by Lou Bondi’.

However, The Malta Independent on Sunday is reliably informed that Mr Bondi’s Tuesday evening slot on PBS has been confirmed for this autumn.

The Wednesday evening slot for the Champions League is a non-issue since it has always been dedicated to football ever since PBS started broadcasting the competition.

Meanwhile, this newspaper has also learnt that there are other sports programmes which will be shown on Education 22, including the horse-racing programme.
