Sculptor George Muscat Wins The Silver Palette Competition

The Silver Palette Competition held every two years by the Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, was won by sculptor George Muscat. The theme of this year’s competition was Nostalgia.

The section prizes were awarded as follows:

Watercolours: Doranne Alden

Oils: Joseph Pulo

Acrylics: Maria Rossella Dalmas

Sculpture & Ceramics: George Muscat

Overall Winner: George Muscat

Grace Cassar, Angela Theuma and Joseph Barbara were given an Honourable Mention.

The prize for the Other Media Section was not awarded.

A total of 66 artists entered the competition, submitting 96 works. The Curator of the Competition and Exhibition, Louis P. Saliba, praised the high standard of many of the entries, although he felt that the overall standard could have been higher.

Minister for Tourism and Culture Dr Francis Zammit Dimech and Paul Asciak, president of the Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce presented the awards at the opening of the exhibition. Vee Gee Bee Art sponsored the prizes for the competition.
