Three Maltese ceramists will join star ceramists from 28 European countries to exhibit their work on the Danish island of Bornholm in late summer.
The big European ceramics event “European Ceramic Context 2006”, which takes place in Bornholm, will include exhibitions, workshops, conference and sales fair.
The selected ceramists are among the finest in Europe. Established stars, budding young talents and industrial designers will each present two contemporary works in three different exhibitions:
The Art Museum of Bornholm has works by the established ceramics elite; Gronbechs Gard will present works by young ceramists and Hjorths Factory Bornholm – Museum of Ceramics shows industrially manufactured ceramic design.
The exhibitions will be officially opened on Friday September 8 at Bornholms Kunstmuseum with the participation of the Danish Minister of Culture, Brian Mikkelsen. The exhibitions close on 22 October.
At the official opening, a winner chosen by an international jury from each of the three categories, will be presented with an award of €10,000. National Commissioners, all of whom are experts in the arts and represent some of Europe’s leading museums, galleries and organizations, made the selection of the ceramists. The Maltese Commissioner was the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts.
Maltese artists Paul Haber and George Muscat will exhibit in the established artists exhibition and Lucienne Fenech will exhibit her works in the young budding artists exhibition. Two students from the MCAST Institute of Art and Design were invited to participate in a workshop to be held prior to the exhibitions.
