The Marsa select won the toss and elected to bat. Alan Kyle opened the batting and took the game away from the Asian Select eleven. Kyle made 121 runs including 17 fours. He was aided by Angelo Spiteri's 21 runs, Chris Naudi ten runs, Mark G Sacco 15 runs, Mike Caruana 27 runs and John Grima ten runs not out.
Marsa were also benefited with 48 extras. Marsa totalled 261 runs of the 40 overs allocated. The Asian bowlers toiled hard with Nowell Khosla and Jeya Krishna being the pick of the bowlers taking two wickets each.
The run chase began badly for the Asians with Nowell Khosla trying to guide the ball through the gully region and Mark Sacco taking a great catch of the first ball of the second over. Three overs later Alan Swift made a double breakthrough bowling Joy Ghoseroy and Javed Shah.
The run chase proved to be the downfall to the rest of the batsmen attempting big shots to keep up with the run rate. Sarfraz Ali top scored with twenty six runs and Nadeem Ashraf twenty five runs. The Asians final score was 112 runs.
For Marsa Alan Swift took three wickets and three bowlers Mike Smith, Chris Naudi and Mike Caruana all took two wickets each. Marsa select win the first of the five game series by 149 runs.
Last Tuesday Marsa were on the receiving end of a great batting display from D.Halkon who made 151 runs not out from a total of 326. A.Hart made 71 runs and R.Holloway chipped in with 35 runs. For Marsa Gordon Hewitt was the better bowler taking three wickets. Marsa could only muster up 178 runs in reply with Andrew Naudi top scoring with 46 runs.
Next Saturday the second game of the Mediterranean Cup takes place.
