Petrol, Diesel prices up

As was widely expected, the price of petrol, diesel and kerosene went up by substantial margins as from yesterday, the Department of Information announced in a statement. The prices have also been approved by the Malta Resources Authority.

The price of unleaded petrol went by three cents per litre to 49c4 per litre, that of lead replacement petrol went up by three cents per litre to 52c4 per litre while diesel and kerosene increased by 1c5 and 1c6 per litre respectively to reach a price of 43c6 per litre.

The DOI said that according to the announcement of monthly revisions, these prices reflect the levels at which Enemalta bought its fuel consignment the month before. Unleaded PLATTS rose from around $640 per metric tonne to around $710 per metric tonne while diesel and kerosene PLATTS rose from $610 per metric tonne to just over $680 per metric tonne.

Light heating oil increased by 0c6 to 24c5 per litre while thin fuel oil 200 deg decreased by Lm2 per tonne to Lm154 per metric tonne. Thin Fuel Oil 450 deg was down by Lm3 to Lm150 per metric tonne while thin Fuel Oil 950 deg was down by Lm 4.50 to Lm143.50 per metric tonne.

In the case of petrol products, the price change includes the reduction of transitory duty that was introduced as a counter measure against the fuel surcharge on electricity bills.
