The International Council of Museums (ICOM) is inviting museums all over the world to celebrate the theme “Museums and young people”, for International Museum Day, on or around 18 May.
This year’s theme was selected to raise awareness on how young people participate in redefining the mission and practices of heritage institutions in the 21st century, and how museums can contribute to shaping tomorrow’s society by interacting with young people. ICOM-Malta is organising an event to mark International Museums Day tomorrow by offering tours for young people at selected sites. These tours are being organised with trainee guides from the Institute of Tourism Studies, and will provide young people with the opportunity to observe and participate in museum work.
The following are the sites offering these tours between the times stipulated:
• St John’s Co-Cathedral & Museum (with free entrance to visitors under 18 years of age) 9.30am to noon;
•Limestone heritage (discounted entrance) 9am to noon;
•Aviation Museum (discounted entrance) 9am to noon.
