Road In Spain named after Malta

Malta Independent Friday, 19 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

A road in a small town just outside Valencia has been named in Malta’s honour.

L’Avenida de la Republica de Malta can be found in the small village of Tavernes de la Valldigna, which has a population of 18,000.

Malta’s ambassador to Spain, Gaetan Naudi, the town’s mayor Eugenio Perez-Mifsud and Valletta mayor Paul Borg Oliver attended naming ceremony.

An exhibition on Emperor Charles V of Spain will be held in Malta later this year. It is being organised in collaboration with the local government of Valenciana, the Jaume II el Just foundation, the association Amigos de Malta, and the Education, Youth and Employment Ministry.

The Maltese delegation also had the opportunity to meet local residents of Maltese decent and who had Maltese surnames such as Mifsud, Navarres and Sicluna-Hernandez.
