Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said that the revision process to the current development boundaries is transparent and is intended to address certain anomalies and injustices which resulted in the provisional schemes drawn up in 1988.
He said that the Cabinet drafted clear criteria according to law and this will ensure that the process will be fair with no favouritism. These criteria were communicated to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority and after an analysis of all those pleas that were pending, Mepa confirmed those that conform to the established criteria. The public has one and a half months to give its views on what is being proposed.
After this consultation process, Mepa will move its final proposals to the government where they will be discussed and decided on in Parliament, Dr Gonzi added.
The PM said that it was irresponsible for the Opposition leader to fire accusations without having any concrete proof.
