Following the success of Katanga!, the Malta Drama Centre and St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity will be presenting a repeat performance, with the added participation of Maltese artists, on Sunday at 8pm.
Katangan refugees once again promise to give an exhilarating performance with their stories, rhythms and choreographies. Local authors will be reading original works inspired by the lives and stories of immigrants and the evening will also include a multimedia photographic presentation by award-winning photographer Darrin Zammit Lupi.
This project is intended to pay homage to the expressive, creative power of the Africans whom fate has pushed to our shores. Malta Drama Centre director Mario Azzopardi remarked: “The performance is a statement in favour of their inalienable right to give vent to their own culture, a right which is endorsed by International Conventions.”
St James Cavalier general manager Chris Gatt said:“This performance will once again celebrate the cultural identity of Katanga and the African continent while simultaneously providing a creative platform for local artists to express the issues threatening the celebration of such diversity”.
Tickets at Lm2.50 are available from St James Cavalier. Bookings can be made through the box office on 2122-3200 or [email protected]
