Flute And piano recital

A flute and piano recital will take place at Temi Zammit Hall at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, on Monday at 9pm. The recital will feature Emilía Rós Sigfúsdóttir on the flute and Kirsten Simpson on the piano.

The programme includes the Sonata in C major by J.S. Bach, followed by Henri Dutilleux’s Sonatine for Flute and Piano. Emilía and Kirsten will also perform Lowell Liebermann’s Sonata for Flute and Piano, Rising from the Ashes by Tarek Younis, and Gabriel Fauré’s Sonata in A major op.13.

Emilía Rós Sigfúsdóttir was born in Iceland and studied at the Reykjavík College of Music with Bernard Wilkinson and Hallfríður Ólafsdóttir. Emilía Rós continued her studies at the Trinity College of Music in London with Wissam Boustany 2003-2004 and was awarded a postgraduate diploma with distinction in June 2004.

Born in New Zealand, Kirsten Simpson graduated from the University of Canterbury with a Master of Music degree in pianoforte performance, studying with Canadian-born concert pianist, Diedre Irons. Taking up residence in London for the last several years, Kirsten Simpson continued her studies at the Royal College of Music and received a postgraduate diploma in performance in 2004. She is currently following the advanced postgraduate accompanists’ course there with distinction, working on solo repertoire with Gordon Fergus-Thompson, and piano accompaniment with John Blakely and Roger Vignoles.

The Malta Arts Festival – Summer 2006 is organised by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts and in collaboration with the Tourism and Culture Ministry. It is sponsored by HSBC Bank Malta plc, The Valletta Local Council, Bank of Valletta plc and The Westin Dragonara Resort.

Admission tickets at Lm5 and Lm3 (for students and pensioners on presentation of pensioner’s or student’s card) are available from the Malta Arts Festival Information Stand, Freedom Square, Valletta. Opening hours are on weekdays from 8.30am to 1pm and 5pm to 9.30pm, and on weekends from 10am to 1pm and 5pm to 9.30pm.
