Agenzija Appogg affords opportunities to volunteers in several of the services it offers. Voluntary work for social welfare services is a great help and every year, many services are carried out with the help of volunteers.
In 2006, over 12,000 hours of work from volunteer helpers were dedicated to the Supportline 179. This is a 24-hour service of Agenzija Appogg that is the national helpline dealing with around 60 different types of problem, including domestic violence, rape, child abuse, attempted suicide, loneliness, homelessness, mental health, emotional difficulties and behavioural problems, among others.
Another 6,000 hours of work on the part of volunteers were also given to Programm Ulied Darna, an Appogg service that offers practical support to families whose children are at great social risk and who require support to prevent crises and other family problems.
An information meeting on the subject of voluntary work will be held on Thursday, 25 January at Agenzija Appogg, 36 St Luke’s Road, Guardamangia.
The meeting will be held at 10am and will be repeated at 6pm for the convenience of people who are interested in finding out more about becoming involved in voluntary work.
People who are interested in attending either of these meetings are kindly requested to ring 2295-9000 or Supportline 179 to confirm their attendance.
