Azzjoni Nazzjonali (AN) leader Josie Muscat, yesterday presented the list of candidates who will be contesting the 8 March election on behalf of the party. The 12 AN candidates presented their nomination to the Electoral Commission yesterday.

“We are a relatively new party since our inception was only seven months ago, so we consider it quite an achievement that we have a candidate to contest every district. We have faith in the results of the election, that will be expressed by the Maltese people,” said Dr Muscat. There are 13 districts, and nine of the candidates are contesting two districts each, so AN has at least one representative in every district. There will be three districts with three AN candidates and two districts with two candidates, while the rest of the districts will have one AN candidate each.

“Our candidates represent a wide spectrum of workers, so that we can remain close to the people and with our feet on the ground. We are not expecting all 12 candidates to be elected, however it will be enough if we win just one seat to represent us in parliament. We have no businessmen subsidising us so we are doing this from the heart and our only obligation is towards the Maltese people,” added Dr Muscat.

Dr Muscat is contesting the second district – Vittoriosa, Senglea, Cospicua, Zabbar, Kalkara, Xghajra, and the third district – Zejtun, Fgura, Marsascala, while the deputy leader, entrepreneur Anglu Xuereb is contesting the 11th district – Mdina, Attard, Balzan, Mosta, and the 12th – Mellieha, Naxxar, St Paul’s Bay.

AN’s 10 candidates, apart from Dr Muscat and Mr Xuereb, and the districts they are contesting are:
