Dutch International and AC Milan star Clarence Seedorf, seems to make good use of his free time on hand following the end of a strenuous season, by spreading awareness as the ambassador of the ‘Goal 4 Africa’ global aid campaign.
Following the launch of the initiative in Milan early last week, Clarence Seedorf went to Dubai to continue his efforts to promote this initiative. The ‘Goal 4 Africa’ global foundation works on a very simple principle: donate an amount every time a goal is scored, be it in an amateur competition in your neighbourhood or at international level.
“The next time your son or your nephew scores a goal, all you need to do is to make a donation via the Internet to the ‘Goal 4 Africa’ fund,” Seedorf said. He added, “You can make every goal count for the children of Africa. All we need is the awareness and the will to help.”
The funds will be used for education through sport and social development projects in Africa. The project has been inspired by Nelson Mandela’s dream of ‘education for all – all for education’. It will be centred around Mandela’s 90th birthday (on 18 July) and the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa. It’s a two-year programme that will kick-start with the friendly game which will see top soccer stars at the Allianz Arena on 12 July. Kaka, Drogba, Cannavaro, Gattuso and Essien are among those who will entertain those present for this game.
Clarence Seedorf will be going to Japan to spread awareness of this drive in Japan and the surrounding countries. “This exercise is not about the best players, but about making a difference”, he said.
