Malta Independent Tuesday, 19 October 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 16 years ago

Sandro Cauchi, 36, from Hamrun, was yesterday fined €250 by Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona, and was also banned from watching any football matches from the terraces for one year after he jumped onto the field during a football match between Hamrun and Floriana at Ta’ Qali stadium.

Mr Cauchi, who is a keen Hamrun fan, was accused of breaching public order and peace, swearing in public and of failing to abide with police orders.

He ran onto the pitch as the game was nearing its end, and was halted in his tracks by several Hamrun players, before he was apprehended by the police.

Even though Mr Cauchi was accused of relatively minor offences, he was represented in court by three lawyers – Jose’ Herrera, Veronique Dalli and Raphael Fenech Adami. Police Inspector Robert Vella prosecuted.
