Minister Denies Enemalta’s CEO has home comforts at the office

Minister Tonio Fenech has denied almost all of the claims made by Evarist Bartolo (PL) about modern comforts at the Enemalta CEO’s office.

Mr Bartolo claimed the fire escape leads to the roof. No, Mr Fenech replied, that is only for the duration of works. When the works are finished, it will lead to the ground.

Mr Bartolo claimed there was a special set of telecameras in the CEO’s office area. No, Mr Fenech rebutted. There is the same number of telecameras as in other areas of the administrative building.

Mr Bartolo claimed the office also has a sofa bed, an iron (for ironing suits, etc), and an ironing board, a washing machine, a dish washer, a luxurious kitchen – all things one associates with a residence rather than with an office.

Of all these items, Mr Fenech replied, all there is are a dishwasher and a washing machine. As for the kitchen, wherever in the administrative building refurbishment takes place, a kitchen is refurbished. The kitchen in the CEO’s area is on the same level as the others.

Mr Bartolo also claimed that employees in the CEO’s secretariat are expected to work irregular hours, including long stretches during the evening, whereas considering the work that is done none of this merits the hours that are kept. Mr Fenech rebutted that any Enemalta employee is expected to work overtime if there is no need but it does not look like the employees are being kept on overtime for nothing.
