The Olympic collection Speedmaster and the Space Collection Apollo/Soyuz introduced to Malta
Diamonds International, Malta’s leading luxury jewellery, is introducing to the Maltese market two limited edition Omega watches: The Olympic Collection Speedmaster and the Space Collection Apollo/Soyuz Speedmaster Professional. These two watches are both part of unique, historic collections and indeed carry the weight of Omega’s history in watch making and its presence in historic events through the world and beyond!
The Olympic Collection is a reflection of Omega’s unparalleled history in sports timekeeping, which dates as far back as 1905 when the company was appointed official timekeeper to no less than 16 different sporting events at an international level. Omega’s relationship with the Olympic Games was further strengthened in 1932, when the company was the first-ever to be appointed official timekeeper of all disciplines at the Olympic Games. Indeed, over the last century Omega timekeepers’ expertise was such that the brand was chosen to be the official timekeeper of a total of 21 Olympic Games – a record unequalled by any other watch manufacturer. Throughout all these years, the Omega Speedmaster has established a reputation for incredible durability and accuracy. It is testament to these qualities that the overall design and dimensions have changed little in that time, though newer models include additional features that bring it right up to date. The Speedmaster five-counter chronograph watches in the Olympic Collection feature five sub-dials positioned in the shape of the Olympic rings. The jewelled models have bezel rings, which are dramatically paved with 60 full-cut diamonds and a minute track with an additional 120 diamonds. Their cases are 18 Ct white gold. The Olympic rings have been created in diamonds (the black model) or rubies, emeralds, diamonds and sapphires (the white model).
Omega also has a well-documented history of association with space travel and Nasa. Indeed, Omega watches have been worn in space since the Gemini programme and have had a long relationship with the Apollo programme. As a matter of fact, Omega watches have been cited as the only watches to be worn on the Moon. The Apollo/Soyuz watch is an elegantly masculine watch from Omega’s Space Collection. It pays homage to the historic Apollo-Soyuz space mission, where the cosmonauts and astronauts linked up and shook hands, all wearing Omega’s Speedmaster. The Omega Space Collection Apollo-Soyuz was designed especially to honour that significant and unique event in world and space history, and as such Omega has manufactured a watch with an extraordinary feature: a dial created from a meteorite. This makes each Apollo/Soyuz watch even more special: since no two pieces of the meteorite are exactly alike, so each watch in this limited edition is absolutely unique. This 35th anniversary luxury watch features all that is expected of the Omega Speedmaster watches and more! It is in fact a manual-winding chronograph featuring the same mechanism worn by a member of the Apollo/Soyuz mission. It also features 18 jewels, a polished-brushed case, a black aluminium ring with tachymeter scale on bezel and a commemorative engraving of the historic event on the back of its casing.
