PN denies proposed break with Christian Democratic label

The Nationalist Party does not intend doing away with its Christian Democratic label and there is no proposal on the table to do so, PN leader Simon Busuttil has said.

Dr Busuttil was reacting to a recent article in our daily sister newspaper, “PN touted to distance itself from its Christian Democratic label”, which suggested such an item may be on the Executive Council’s agenda following an exercise intended at revamping the party’s creed and bringing it up to date to present day realities.

Speaking with this newspaper, Dr Busuttil said, “There is no proposal whatsoever to remove from the Nationalist Party’s statute the reference to the party’s commitment to its roots, including its Christian Democratic values.

“It is also pertinent to point out that the Nationalist Party is a proud and active member of the European People’s Party, which brings together all Christian Democratic parties in the European Union.”

PN secretary-general Chris Said recently announced that new commissions and branches as well as structures that are so far inexistent will be introduced to the party, and that the PN would seek to widen its appeal to more sections of society so that no one feels excluded.
