Palermo's Fiscal Police have raided and closed down a chain of betting shops in the centre of the city and have arrested two men on charges of illegal gambling.
Ten different terminals were seized in the gambling shop as well as another that were for the private use of selected users.
Through these terminals, it was possible to bet on selected sports events with companies based in Malta and Lugano in Switzerland.
The companies were not registered according to law. The shop was not licensed according to the State Monopolies Administration and with the Public Security Commission.
The betting chain allowed users to place several illegal bets in conjunction with foreign bookmakers that were also not authorised to conduct such business in Italy.
The police also seized equipment and cash found on the premises MNA/ITALPRESS reported.
