Transport Minister Joe Mizzi claims conflict of interest by two Opposition MPs

Friday, 17 July 2015, 21:32 Last update: about 12 years ago

Speaking on the Adjournment this evening, Minister Joe Mizzi claimed that a member of the Opposition, who he did not name, had incurred a conflict of interest when he asked a parliamentary question regarding Triq il-Wied tar-Ruman in Mellieha. Mr Mizzi also asked if this member had taken money for asking this question.

Mr Mizzi then claimed that MP Marthese Portelli has incurred a conflict of interest by sitting as a director on a company, Alta Consulta, with Transport Malta's top finance officer and a person who takes many contracts from Transport Malta.

While adding he turned up in Parliament in inappropriate attire, he said he had a family reason for this.

He also claimed that when his son was grievously injured, a report to Police HQ for assistance had been routed to Radio 101 which lost no time in claiming his son was badly injured while driving without having a licence.
None of this was true. His son was a passenger in a car that was being taken by a pick-up truck and was without an engine.
