Parliamentary secretary for the 2017 EU presidency and European Funds Ian Borg inaugurated the €16,000 restoration project of the traditional Maltese balcony which forms part of the Rabat L’Isle Adam Band Club.
Dr Borg explained that the project qualified after a call made by the Majjistral Action Group which administers regional funds under the ‘leader’ programme.
He said that the building, which incorporates the traditional balcony, is in itself of historical importance. He explained that the building is 200 years old, confirming the government’s appreciation and respect of Malta’s cultural and artistic heritage.
He expressed his satisfaction with the number of musical groups that will benefit from the ‘leader’ programme under the guidance of the North and East Action Groups. This will amount to 37 eligible projects in 33 localities within both regions.
Dr Borg also brought attention to the similar calls for interest that will be made in the coming days by the ‘leader’ programme, which will also see an increase in the allocation of funding.
