A Libyan national has been arraigned in court this morning and has been charged with a number of offences in connection with resident permits given to Libyans.

Ali Fauzi Ltetey, 38, was charged with falsifying a public document, making a false declaration to a public authority, conspiring with accountant Joseph Sammut and knowingly making use of a falsified document.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri presided over the case, while Police Inspectors Jonathan Ferris, Lara Butters and William Scicluna prosecuted. Defence lawyer Arthur Azzopardi represented the accused, who pleaded not guilty to all charged.

Mr Fauzi Ltetey, who is currently unemployed and has been on the run since August, was arrested at his Sliema home after police received information of his whereabouts.

Dr Azzopardi informed the courts that as of yet, bail will not be requested.

Joe Sammut has been charged with fraud, misappropriation, non-observance of due diligence and forgery to enable Libyans to set up companies in Malta and become eligible for residence permits.
