Political and religious leaders came together over the Christmas period to address the nation with a shared message of unity, solidarity, and social responsibility, during the annual Milied Flimkien activities held in Valletta on Saturday.

Against the backdrop of festive celebrations, their interventions consistently underlined the importance of presence, generosity, and peace in a society facing both local and global challenges.

President Myriam Spiteri Debono, in her address, highlighted the importance of dialogue and unity, thanked the Maltese and Gozitan people for their generosity, and appealed for strong participation in the traditional Istrina donations. She concluded by reaffirming the collective responsibility to support those most in need during their most difficult moments.

Prime Minister Robert Abela referred to the generosity of the Maltese people and the central role of love and compassion, not only during the festive season but throughout the year.

Speaker of the House Anglu Farrugia spoke about the importance of peace, drawing attention to ongoing conflicts abroad and their human cost.

Archbishop Charles Scicluna emphasised that the greatest gift that can be offered at Christmas is not material, but human presence. The Archbishop encouraged the public to use digital platforms to spread messages of peace and goodwill, while also stressing the irreplaceable value of personal, physical presence.

The theme of solidarity was echoed by Opposition Leader Alex Borg, who called for continued support of the Malta Community Chest Fund, stressing its crucial role in providing assistance to individuals and families facing serious health and personal challenges.
